West Bank, MINA – The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said Monday that Israeli occupation authorities have intensified their targeting of students across the occupied West Bank, with four Tawjihi students kidnapped since the start of the examination period, Wafa reports.

The PPS said one of the four victims has been placed under administrative detention. The Society also noted that Israeli forces had previously kidnapped 65 Tawjihi students, both male and female that before and during the current academic year.

Tawjihi is the General Secondary Education Certificate Examination, a crucial test that determines a student’s eligibility for higher education and university admission.

The PPS said that since the start of Israel’s genocidal war in October 2023, kidnapping campaigns targeting students at all educational levels have intensified as part of widespread arrests affecting tens of thousands of Palestinians.

The Society warned that the most important stage in Tawjihi students’ educational journey has been turned into another form of abuse, as students are kidnapped and deprived of the opportunity to sit for their final exams.

The escalation extends beyond expanded kidnapping campaigns to include the conditions of student and child detainees in Israeli prisons, where they have been completely stripped of their right to education. The PPS stressed that this denial has become one of the most dangerous policies adopted by the Israeli prison system since the genocide began.

The Society noted that the right to education had long been one of the key rights detainees struggled to secure, despite repeated attempts by prison administrations to deny it. However, since the onset of the war, the Israeli prison system has revoked all detainees’ rights and transformed prisons into environments of torture, abuse, and systematic violations around the clock.

The PPS called on international human rights organizations and relevant UN bodies to assume their responsibilities regarding escalating crimes against kidnapped Palestinian students. It urged them to pressure Israeli authorities to end the targeting of students, protect child detainees, and stop systematic torture policies that violate international humanitarian law, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.[]
