IRANIAN FM AND MURSI DISCUSS PALESTINE AND SYRIAN ISSUES

      Tehran, 29 Safar 1434/11 January 2013 (MINA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in a meeting with Egyptian President Mohammad Mursi in Cairo on Thursday (10/1) conferred on bilateral ties as well as the latest regional and international developments.

     The issue of Palestine and Syria were among the topics dealt by the two officials, according to Fars News Agency report received by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).

     Salehi had earlier on the day, held talks on the Syrian crisis with his Egyptian counterpart Mohammed Kamel Amr, officials said, a day after he met peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi. 

      Egypt’s foreign ministry said that Salehi and Amr “exchanged views on the Syrian crisis and means of finding a solution” to the conflicts in Syria. 

      Earlier, Deputy of Turkis Foreign Minister Feridun Sinirlioglu to meet Russian officials to discuss the development of the Middle East, especially in Syria.

      At the end of the year 2012, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported that the number of Syrian refugees registered in neighbouring countries has nearly doubled since the beginning of September to more than 440,000.

     The agency said it currently counted 127,420 Syrian refugees registered in Lebanon, 125,670 in Jordan, 123,747 in Turkey, 55,685 in Iraq and 9,734 in the North African countries, and the number is keep increasing.

      More than 60,000 people have been killed in the civil war in Syria. The United Nations said the number of deaths increased dramatically and shows no signs of ending. (T/R-010/R-006)
