Tehran, MINA – Iran’s Health Ministry announced on Saturday that 50 people have been killed and over 500 injured in US strikes since June 27. The casualties include 5 women and 2 children and teenagers under 18 . Among the injured are 32 women and 18 children .
The strikes are part of a significant escalation between the US and Iran that has unfolded over the past month . The recent surge in hostilities follows a period of relative calm after a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in June to end the war and reach a lasting peace agreement.
However, that agreement has since collapsed, with Iran suggesting it is effectively suspended amid US violations.
The military actions have centered on the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, with the US aiming to degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping and Iran retaliating against US assets and allies in the region . The escalating conflict has raised fears of a wider regional war.[]
