Indonesian Police to Meet Interpol for Verification of Death of Terrorist Mastermind

Jakarta, MINA – National police personnel of Indonesia will meet with international police (Interpol) to verify information about the death of an Indonesian citizen, who had fought for IS in Syria and organized a series of of suicide bombings in Indonesia, China’s Xinhua news agency reported.

Indonesian National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian disclosed on Tuesday that he would send his personnel abroad for meeting Interpol and other credible foreign sources to find out whether or not Bahrun Naim died in a fighting in Abu Hamam of Syria on Nov. 30 as it was reported by social media.

“The police must find accurate information from credible sources of information, it can be Interpol which has access to that place (Syria), the United States, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom,” he said.

The general admitted that Naim had strong influence among the militants in Indonesia and their acts.

“He has strong influence. His role is as intermediary between IS elite, IS central and terrorist leaders. He has frequently contacted terrorist leaders in Indonesia,” he said.

One of the major suicide bombings masterminded by Naim is the suicide attack in the hearth of Jakarta on Jan. 24, 2016 that killed eight people and wounded about 30 others.

Police said that the strike was also parts of Naim’s attempt to be leader of IS group in the Southeast Asia region. (T/RS5/RS1)
