INDONESIA TO HOST CONFERENCE ON PALESTINE DEVELOPMENT

         Jakarta, 20 Safar 1435 / December 23, 2013 MINA) – Indonesia will host the Conference on Cooperation Among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD) in early March 2014, Director General of Information and Public Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Addurrahman Fachir said in Jakarta, Monday (23/12).

         “As mandated by our constitution, Indonesia should play an active role in bringing world peace and the conference is a form of awareness of the Indonesian nation on the Palestinian struggle for independence,” Fachir said in a press conference attended by national as well as foreign journalists.

          The conference will discuss how to improve collaboration and partnership to help private sector in realizing the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence and their well-being.

         “It’s a form of Indonesian contribution as a member of the international community,” he added as saying that the forum would be the first in Indonesia, after previously the similar conferences took place in Turkey, Brazil and Austria.

          Despite political transition in 2014, Indonesia’s international diplomacy will still run, such as through such conferences.

         In Agutus 2014, Indonesia is also scheduled to host the 6th Global Forum for the UN Alliance of Civilizations.

        Palestine is the only country that is still under occupation by the Zionist Israelis. Therefore, they need international parties support in their struggle to reach independence.

        In February 2013, CEAPAD conference was held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. “This time (March 2014) Indonesia will be the host,”  Deputy Director for Economic, Finance and Development, Directorate of Middle East Affairs, Tjoki Aprianda Siregar, said.

        Tjoki said Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will attend the conference, in addition to other foreign ministers and leaders of the East Asian countries. “This conference will further emphasize the role of private sector in an effort to help the struggle of the Palestinian people for their independence,” Tjoki added.
