Flores, MINA – The provincial government of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has declared a 14-day emergency response status for the earthquake disaster, effective from August 15 to August 28, 2026.
The decision was made to accelerate earthquake impact management and strengthen coordination and resource mobilization in affected areas. NTT Governor Melki Laka Lena stated that the status declaration serves as a legal basis for the government to accelerate access, coordination, and communication among all parties in disaster response.
The status was formalized through Governor Decree Number 305/KEP/HK/2026 regarding the Earthquake Disaster Emergency Response Status in NTT Province, issued in Kupang on August 15, 2026. The declaration came after a powerful earthquake struck the Flores region on Saturday, with BMKG updating its analysis to record the quake at magnitude 7.7, centered approximately 30 kilometers northeast of Nagekeo at a depth of 15 kilometers.
During the emergency period, public safety and basic needs fulfillment remain the top priorities. The NTT provincial government is directing resources toward victim search and evacuation, health services, shelter provision, basic needs fulfillment, and restoration of damaged transportation access and infrastructure. Disaster management is being carried out through coordination between provincial and district/city governments, central government, military and police, relevant agencies, businesses, and communities.
