Washington, 26 Sya’ban 1435/24 June 2014 (MINA) – A political analyst says the US seeks to implement the Israeli plan for the Middle East by supporting the terrorists from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), Press TV reports.

In an interview with Press TV on Monday, James Fetzer, a former professor at University of Minnesota Duluth, described the ongoing Takfiri violence in Iraq as a “catastrophe” for the country’s “national unity.”

He added that the ISIL militants, who enjoy Washington’s support, are after breaking Iraq into “conflicting sectarian parts with minimum political influence or significance, and then that should spill over into Syria,” Press TV quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting, Tuesday.

By promoting the ISIL terrorists in Iraq, the United States is “ultimately implementing the Israeli plan for the destruction of the modern Arab states” in the region, added the analyst.

Earlier this week, American news website WorldNetDaily (WND) quoted unnamed Jordanian officials as saying that US military instructors trained ISIL Takfiri militants at a secret base in Jordan in 2012.

WND further reported that, according to a source in contact with a high official in the Iraqi government, the US had also been aware for two months that the ISIL group was training fighters in Turkey.

Over the past days, Iraqi armed forces have been engaged in fierce battles with the ISIL terrorists, who have threatened to take their acts of violence to other Iraqi cities, including the capital, Baghdad.

However, their advance has been slowed down as Iraqi military forces and volunteer fighters have begun engaging them on several fronts, pushing the militants out of several areas they had earlier overrun. (T/E01/IR)
