GERMANY SUPPORTS FRANCE IN MALI INTERVENTION

Berlin, 3 Rabiul Awwal 1434/ 15 January 2013 (AA/MINA) – Germany on Monday announced that they would support France for their intervention in Mali but would not send military forces.

German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle stated that they supported France’s intervention in Mali politically, logistically and medically apart from providing military forces in a statement he made in Kiel, Germany, Monday (14/01) as quoted Miraj News Agency (MINA).

Westerwelle stated that Europeans wouldn’t like a deployment area owned by terrorists at their front door, in southern Mediterranean.

German Minister of Defense Thomas de Maiziere also said that there was no decision made in regards to sending military forces to Mali but they were at a stage of planning, in his statement to Deutschlandfunk radio.

Praising France’s military intervention decision, Maiziere said the move was logical and right and it deserved support. (T.R-014/R-006)
