According to Anadolu Agency report, Erdogan visited Tuncay who is currently receiving treatment at Ankara’s Numune Hospital. Prime Minister Erdogan received information on Tuncay’s health.
The previous day, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Sunday visited Didem Tuncay, the Turkish journalist who was wounded at the US Embassy blast in Ankara.
The respected journalist Tuncay was seriously wounded in suicide bombing at the US Embassy in Ankara on February 1 and she underwent an operation from her eye on February 8.
Referring to Tuncay’s eye surgery, Davutoglu said, “There are serious improvements in her right eye. Hopefully, she will recover both aesthetically and functionally.”
Davutoglu was informed about the diplomatic correspondent’s condition from her doctors in the Turkish capital Ankara, according to Anadolu Agency reports monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA), Tuesday.
Terrorist (DHKP-C–Devrimci Halk Kurtulus Partisi/Cephesi – Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front) organization claimed the suicide bomb attack on February 1 at US Embassy which killed the suicide bomber and a security guard and wounded Tuncay.
Meanwhile, according to Today’s Zaman report, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited journalist Didem Tuncay — who was seriously wounded in a suicide bomb attack at the US Embassy in Ankara on Feb. 1 — at Ankara Numune Research and Teaching Hospital on Monday morning.
Tuncay has lost sight in her right eye but is no longer in intensive care, Dr. Nurullah Zengin of Ankara Numune Hospital said at a press conference last week; however, a second announcement made by hospital authorities on Monday said there are positive signs indicating that Tuncay’s vision in her right eye might be restored.
A seven-centimeter-long piece of metal went into Tuncay’s right eye in the embassy attack. Her eardrum was also damaged, and doctors are exerting all possible efforts to recover it.
Tuncay, who US Ambassador to Turkey Francis Ricciardone said was at the embassy to meet with him, sustained the serious injuries to her head when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at an entrance to the embassy. The bomber, identified as Ecevit Şanlı, and a security guard died in the attack. (T.P06/E1)
