EGYPT’S CURFEW SHORTENED EXCEPT ON FRIDAYS

        Cairo, 18 Shawwal 1434/25  August 2013 (MINA) – Egypt’s army-backed government shortened a night-time curfew by two hours on Saturday, 10 days after police officer’s ‘massacres’ over sit-in protesters of National Aliance across the country.

        Effective immediately, the curfew will last from 9 p.m. Egypt Time (1900 GMT) to 6 a.m., except on Fridays, when it will still start at 7 p.m., the cabinet said in a statement, Egypt Independent reported as monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).

        It said the decision had been taken “to lighten the burden on citizens and in response to popular demand”.

       The authorities imposed the curfew on August 14 when police destroyed Brotherhood protest camps in Cairo set up to demand the reinstatement of ousted Islamist President Mohamed Mursi. They said the curfew would stay in place for at least a month.

       The Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance called for peace protest after Jum’ah pray to end the violence by security forces and its military against sit-in protester who made thousands innocent people killed amid its forcibly dispersal.

         More than 1,000 people have been killed across Egypt, while thousands other injured and arrested by police officer, as well as almost 100 Muslim Brotherhood leaders arrested until now. (T/P03/E1)
