Islamabad, MINA – The Pakistani government has officially issued a deep appeal to the United States and Iran to remain committed to the ceasefire agreement, even though high-level negotiations held in Islamabad ended without a deal, Anadolu Agency reports.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar emphasized that regional stability is currently at a critical point, and failure to exercise restraint would only trigger military escalation that would harm both parties as well as neighboring Muslim countries, Pakistan Today reported on Monday.

The failure of the negotiations was triggered by sharp differences over nuclear monitoring mechanisms and Tehran’s demand for the complete lifting of economic sanctions.

Pakistan, which acted as a facilitator, stated that although a final agreement has not yet been reached, the dialogue that has taken place should serve as political capital to avoid armed confrontation.

Islamabad hopes that both countries will not take provocative steps that could destroy the peace efforts built over the past several months.

The situation has become increasingly tense following the emergence of threats from Washington to blockade the Strait of Hormuz in response to the deadlock.

Pakistan emphasized that maintaining the security of international shipping lanes is a shared responsibility, and unilateral military action in the region would only worsen the global energy crisis.

As a neighboring country that has strategic ties with Iran as well as diplomatic relations with the US, Pakistan has a direct interest in preventing the outbreak of open war.

Islamabad is working to convince both Tehran and Washington that a ceasefire is not merely a cessation of hostilities, but a space for humanitarian diplomacy. This step is crucial given that millions of lives in the region depend on security stability and economic access unhindered by armed conflict. []
