ARAB LEAGUE MEETING ON SYRIA

      Cairo,  03 Rabiul Awwal 1434/ 14 January 1434 (AA/MINA) – Secretary General of the Arab League, Nabil al-Arabi stated UN and Arab League’s Special Envoy on Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi has not failed. Arabi said Brahimi suggested several positive plans to find a political solution for the Syria crisis.

 

      Speaking after the extraordinary meeting of Arab League officials in Egyptian capital of Cairo on Sunday, al-Arabi said that Brahimi will present a detailed report about his studies at UN’s Geneva office next week.

 

      On the other hand, in the meeting’s final declaration, Arab foreign ministers decided and agreed to form a team to visit Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan where Syrian shelter seekers mainly accommodate. The team will assess the situation of Syrians and their needs.

       Moreover, foreign ministers stated that the Arab countries, international community, Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and relief organizations have to work in cooperation in the scope of providing aid and peace process.

 

       Foreign Ministers also decided to form a delegation to visit capital cities of Arab countries in order to ease the economic crisis in Palestine.

 

       In the declaration, it was stated that the delegation formed by Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi and foreign ministers of Iraq and Lebanon will start visiting Arab capitals as soon as possible. (T.R-014/R-006)
