Gaza, MINA – Humanitarian conditions in the Palestinian territories are worsening amid declining aid funding and growing food and health needs, as Israeli military operations continue, settler violence escalates, and economic conditions deteriorate.

The World Food Program (WFP) said household assistance in the West Bank has been cut by half due to funding shortages, leaving around 200,000 people without support at a time when humanitarian needs have doubled over the past two years.

WFP Palestine Country Director Shaun Hughes said escalating settler violence, Israeli military operations, economic crisis, and rising unemployment have worsened food insecurity, with around one-third of West Bank residents struggling to meet basic needs.

In Gaza, the WFP warned of reduced cash assistance, having scaled back support to around 75,000 families in July, while up to 90% of Gaza’s population could face high levels of acute food insecurity by year-end if aid does not continue at the required pace.

On the health front, the World Health Organization warned of a possible public health crisis in Gaza during winter due to contaminated water, deteriorating sanitation, and rising disease risks.

Acute watery diarrhea cases rose sharply from 30,000 in March to over 58,000 in August. The WHO also said more than 6,600 people need long-term care after limb amputations, yet only 12% of those amputated since October 2023 had received prosthetic limbs as of July, reflecting severe shortages of rehabilitation services.

The WHO called for accelerating the entry of medical supplies, laboratory equipment, prosthetic limbs, clean water, and improved waste management to reduce disease outbreaks. The overlapping crises from food and income to water, health, and rehabilitation are compounded by funding shortages as needs rise rapidly.[]
