AACC URGES MEDIA TO PROMOTE PEACE

kaaJakarta, 2 Rajab 1436/20 April 2015 (MINA) – The Ministerial Meeting of the 60th Asian-African Conference in Jakarta on Monday discusses on how to involve media as peace keeper in information side, an Indonesian diplomat said.

According to Director General for Asia Pacific and Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yuri Thamrin, this issue has been highly discussed during the meeting following recent violents retaliate with terorism in several countries.

“Today the ministerial meeting also discussed the importance of involving the media to promote a culture of peace in the fight against terrorism as agreed by all parties,” he said.

At the opening remarks earlier, Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno L.P Marsudi asserted that the main chalenges of Asia-Africa countries is modern colonialism and imperialism. So, the countries have to unite to fight against them.

The ministerial meeting was taking place on the second day of the Asian-African Conference Commemoration, held from April 19 until April 24.

In her speech, Retno also underlined the importance of cooperation among countries in Asia-Africa to achieve common prosperity.

“Shared development among countries in Asia-Africa is a must. Indonesia is ready to play roles and participate,” she said.

The ministerial meeting, scheduled to take place from 9:20 a.m. until 6 p.m., is a follow-up to a senior official meeting which was held on Sunday. During Sunday’s meeting, all delegations agreed on three documents, namely the Bandung Message, New Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP) and the Palestine Declaration.

The conference will be held from April 19 –  23 in Jakarta and on April 24 in Bandung. The Asian African Business Summit is scheduled to take place on April 21-22.(L/R04/R03)
