A NATO SOLDIER KILLED IN AFGHAN FIGHTERS ATTACK
Kabul, 8 Ramadan 1434/16 July 2013 (MINA) – The coalition forces in Afghanistan announced a NATO soldier was killed following militant fighters attack in esatern Afghanistan.
The US-led Western military alliance said that the soldier was killed in a direct fire attack on Monday. But the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) did not elaborate on the exact location of the incident or the nationality of the dead soldier.
“An International Security Assistance Force service member died following a direct fire attack in eastern Afghanistan today.”
ISAF generally do not disclose identities of the NATO soldiers killed in Afghanistan saying, Khaama Press quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
“It is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities,” ISAF officials said.
Least 3,348 foreign soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the US-led invasion of the country in 2001 which was conducted as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror, according to the website icasualtis.org which tracks NATO troops casualties in Afghanistan.
At least 99 NATO sodliers including 75 US troops, 6 British troops and 18 soldiers from the other NATO member countries have been killed in Afghanistan since the beginning of 2013.
The increasing number of foreign military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the United States and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war. (T/P09/E1)
