Gaza, 09 Rajab 1438/06 April 2017 (MINA) – The Palestinian Government announced on Thursday start of disbursing the USD 10 million Saudi grant for aiding Gazans secure housing.

“We declare today beginning of disbursing financial allotments for those of demolished houses as part of the USD 10 million Saudi grant,” KUNA reported, citing Mufid Al-Hasaynah, the Minister of Public Works and Housing, in a statement on sidelines of a ceremony marking hand-over of the allocations.

The USD 10 million grant is part of a USD 40 million aid, earmarked by Saudi Arabia to help Gazans whose houses had been demolished in previous wars.

According to the United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA), more than 300,000 Gazans had been sheltering in its schools and up to 500,000 people have been displaced by the conflict.

Palestinian health officials say 2,139 people, most of them civilians, including more than 490 children, have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched Operation Protective Edge on 8 July.

Israel’s death toll stands at 64 soldiers and six civilians, including a four-year-old boy who died after a Hamas rocket hit a house in Eshkol.  (T/RS5/RS1)
