While Abu Nimr was defusing an explosive device, it exploded, killing him, Abu Afsh told KUNA in a statement today.

Clashes erupted after the incident but ended and calm returned to Ain Al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in Sidon, south of Lebanon, he said.

Palestinian National Security Brigade Commander Subhi Abu Arab said that the killing of Abu Nimr occurred by accident, National News Agency (NNA) reported.

He added that the clashes that broke out following Abu Nimr’s death were due to the belief that he was targeted.
