Washington, MINA – The US State Department has approved potential foreign military sales to Israel worth approximately $6.52 billion, the Pentagon announced on Friday, Anadolu Agency reported.

According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the approvals include a possible sale of AH-64E Apache helicopters and related equipment valued at an estimated $3.8 billion. Boeing and Lockheed Martin are expected to serve as the principal contractors.

In a separate decision, the State Department also approved the potential sale of Joint Light Tactical Vehicles and associated equipment worth about $1.98 billion, with AM General LLC listed as the principal contractor.

Additionally, the department cleared a possible sale of Namer Armored Personnel Carrier power packs, excluding transmissions, along with integrated logistics support and related equipment, estimated at $740 million. Rolls-Royce Solutions America would act as the principal contractor.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said the proposed arms sales would enhance Israel’s ability to address current and future threats by improving the mobility and operational capabilities of its forces.

The approvals come amid growing criticism of US military support for Israel during its war on Gaza, where more than 71,600 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed since Oct. 7, 2023.

Several US lawmakers, including Senator Bernie Sanders, have repeatedly called on the US government to halt weapons transfers to Israel, warning that continued arms supplies make Washington complicit in the war in Gaza.[]
