Gaza, MINA – Abu Obeida, the military spokesperson of Hamas’ armed wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, called on mediators to ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement after confirming that all available information regarding the body of the last Israeli captive in Gaza had been handed over.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Abu Obeida said Israeli search operations currently underway in northern Gaza are based on information provided by Al-Qassam to the mediators, stressing that this demonstrates Hamas’ transparency and credibility.
“The enemy’s search for the body of the captive soldier Ran Gvili, based on information we provided to the mediators, confirms the truth of our position,” he said.
Abu Obeida added that Al-Qassam had dealt with the captives and remains file with “full transparency” and fulfilled all obligations under the ceasefire agreement. He accused Israel of failing to fully comply with the deal while continuing repeated violations and attacks.

“We completed everything required of us under the ceasefire agreement and handed over all captives and remains as quickly as possible, despite Israel’s lack of commitment and the dozens of violations and massacres it committed,” he stated.
He emphasized that the Palestinian resistance has no interest in prolonging the process and is keen to close the file completely, noting that the work was carried out under extremely complex conditions due to the massive destruction across Gaza. Abu Obeida urged mediators to assume their responsibilities and compel Israel to implement what was agreed upon.
Meanwhile, Israeli officials confirmed that the army has launched a large-scale search operation in northern Gaza to recover the body of Staff Sergeant Ran Gvili, who was reportedly killed on October 7, 2023. The Israeli military said the operation is focused on a designated area in northern Gaza and may continue for several days due to its complexity.
Israeli media reported that hundreds of bodies are being examined as part of the search, while authorities urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation that could harm recovery efforts or affect the captive’s family.

The developments come at a sensitive political moment as Israel’s Security Cabinet discusses reopening the Rafah crossing and advancing the second phase of the ceasefire agreement. Hamas and Palestinian analysts have accused Israel of linking progress on these issues to the recovery of the captive’s body in order to delay the implementation of core ceasefire commitments.
Under the first phase of the ceasefire, Palestinian resistance factions released all Israeli captives held alive and returned the remains of 27 others, leaving Ran Gvili as the only unresolved case.
Despite the ceasefire framework, Israeli attacks have continued across Gaza. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, more than 71,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 171,000 injured since October 2023, most of them women and children.[]
