Florida, MINA – Hundreds of American demonstrators in the Tampa area of Florida gathered outside city hall and along sidewalks to protest the Trump administration, marking one year since President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Protesters carried banners reading “No King,” “Protect immigrants,” and justice for “Renee Good.”
Erain Boxtha, an organizer with the Tampa Immigration Rights Committee, told Radio WMNF on Wednesday. “We are calling for the protection of immigrants’ rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, and the rights of everyone who has been harmed by the Trump administration.”
Boxtha stated they wanted to show Trump that people will not give up and will continue to oppose his policies. She and many protesters specifically targeted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), calling for an end to deportations.

Demonstrator Dave Shuey expressed concern for the future: “In my 65 years of life, I never imagined we would allow these people [ICE] to terrorize our communities.” He argued that ICE should be abolished and democracy upheld. “The public does not want higher taxes, the public does not want to lose their healthcare. He has created terror and cruelty in the United States, and I have never seen a president act like this.”
Shuey said he feared losing democracy, a sentiment echoed by other protesters.
Nancy Hickey Hughes, a Tampa resident, wore an anti-Trump T-shirt labeling him a dictator. “He’s a fascist, that’s what he is. And he’s turning our country into a fascist state. He wants to attack Greenland, and today I think he even said he wants to take over Canada again, you know, that man is truly insane,” Hughes said. “If I could say one thing to him, it wouldn’t matter because he doesn’t care what ordinary people think.”
Many demonstrators expressed fears about the erosion of democracy and described Trump as a narcissist.
