Tel Aviv, MINA — Israeli prosecutors on Wednesday resumed questioning Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the Tel Aviv District Court in connection with multiple corruption charges filed against him.

The session marked the second hearing since Netanyahu submitted a request on Sunday to President Isaac Herzog seeking a pardon in his corruption trial, a move that has sparked sharp political division between his supporters and critics.

Since the beginning of the trial, Netanyahu has consistently denied all wrongdoing. Under Israeli law, however, a presidential pardon can only be granted after a defendant formally acknowledges guilt.

According to Israel’s public broadcaster KAN, Wednesday’s questioning focused on Case 4000, widely regarded as the most serious among the three cases Netanyahu faces. The case centers on allegations that Netanyahu provided regulatory and financial benefits to Shaul Elovitch, the former owner of the Walla news website and telecommunications giant Bezeq, in exchange for favorable media coverage.

During the court proceedings, Netanyahu reportedly left the courtroom twice due to interruptions to his testimony. A verbal dispute also broke out between his lawyer, Amit Hadad, and the head of the prosecution team, Yehudit Tirosh, stemming from objections raised by prosecutors.

In January, Netanyahu began a series of interrogation sessions related to corruption cases known as Case 1000, Case 2000, and Case 4000. He continues to deny all charges in the three cases.

Separate from the corruption trial, Netanyahu is also facing international legal pressure over the war in Gaza. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants in November 2024 against him and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.[]
