4th IUNCF Plenary Strengthens RI, UN

Jakarta, MINA – Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (Wamenlu) Abdurrahman Mohammad Fachir opened the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Indonesia-United Nations Consultative Forum (IUNCF) at Borobudur Hotel, Central Jakarta, Tuesday.

The forum, which was established on September 9, 2013, serves to facilitate ongoing and constructive coordination between the government of Indonesia and the United Nations involving various ministries and also among representatives of UN agencies in Indonesia.

In the opening ceremony, the Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated the aim of IUNCF was to “strengthen the partnership between the Indonesian government and UN that are coordinated, goal oriented, transparent and effective”.

According to Fachir, there are three things that will be done in the meeting, first, trying to create forums from various agencies that discuss issues in a coordinated manner by involving the sharing of ministries.

The second is conducting constructive discussions. There are two working groups in the forum, namely the Working Group for Information Sharing and Working Groups for Administration, this year seriously will be discussed again regarding programs that are cooperated.

Furthermore, the third is the approach to discuss more on sustainable development or SDGS, so that issue also becomes a priority in the discussion of various programs.

As stated by Vice Minister in his speech, the discussion must be adjusted to the demand or priorities and according to the Foreign Minister, it is actually relevant to the theme of the United Nations this year “United Nation for Our People”.

The fourth IUNCF meeting was chaired jointly by the Director General of Multilateral Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Febrian Ruddyard and UN Representative Coordinator in Indonesia, Anita Nirody.

The meeting also discussed and followed up on the results of the meeting of the two working groups held in 2018. (L/SJ)
