WORKGROUP FOR PALESTINIANS IN SYRIA CONDEMNS KILLINGS AND SIEGE OF YARMOUK

        Damascus, 21 Shafar 1434/02 January 2013 (PIC/MINA) – The workgroup for Palestinians in Syria condemned killing humanitarian activists from the Yarmouk refugee camp by the Syrian regular army, and strongly denounced the “inhuman siege imposed on the Palestinian camps.”

        The workgroup said, in a press release on Tuesday, that two activists, Taha Hussein and Omar al-Harith, were killed at a military checkpoint, set up by the regular army at the entrance to the Yarmouk refugee camp.

        Syrian authorities fully responsible for the killings, pointing out that the siege imposed on the Yarmouk refugee camp and the Sbeineh camp is inhuman and represents a violation of the international norms, according to the statement.

       The group demanded in its statement the Palestinian leadership with all its fractions and movements to place the issue of Palestinian refugees in Syria on its list of priorities, and to intervene and make every effort to end the refugees’ suffering in Syria’s camps. (T/R-020/R-006)
