US ANALIST CALLS ON DISCLOSING BUSH CRIMES
Mike Gravel was talking to Press TV after US Senators Susan Collins and Angus King pushed for the release of crimes committed under Bush, Press TV quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
“I think it’s extremely important for the American people to realize what their government has been doing all these years, which is the height of immorality. One human being torturing another is beyond the pale,” Gravel said on Thursday.
The Senate Intelligence Committee is expected to vote on whether to de-classify parts of a 6,300-page report on the CIA crimes.
The former US senator said he is happy that Collins and King both sit on the committee.
“The fact that these two individuals, who are on the committee, are siding with releasing the report, I think it is very encouraging and increases substantially the chance the American public will get this information finally,” he said.
The report, which cost USD 40 million and took nearly four years to compose, “uncovers startling details about the CIA detention and interrogation program and raises critical questions about intelligence operations and oversight,” according to committee chairwoman Dianne Feinstein (D-California).
The report has also opened a rift between the Senate panel and the CIA, with each side accusing the other of spying.
“That is something that America needs to finally mature to. I hope that somebody would push this too because you won’t see the government punishing these people. You’re going to have to do this at the world court,” Gravel said.
