West Bank, MINA – The United Nations’ Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory has pledged to continue its investigation despite political obstacles and the lack of immediate action on its findings, its newly appointed head stated on Wednesday.
In an interview, Chairman Srinivasan Muralidhar emphasized the commission’s role in creating a lasting record. “I see the importance of this work as documentation of human rights violations, and that will be a very important resource for future generations,” Muralidhar said, adding that the work has already been channeled into legal mechanisms like the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Established in 2021, the commission investigates alleged international crimes and violations in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory. In September 2025, it concluded in a landmark report that Israel was committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
Muralidhar affirmed the investigation’s continuity, stating, “I think as a commission of inquiry, we have to keep doing our investigative work, irrespective of what the world community does with the findings that we have produced.”
