Washington, MINA – US President Donald Trump suggested Friday that he might consider intervening to help resolve deadly border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, praising both nations’ leadership amid escalating tensions.
“Well, I would. I get along with Pakistan, as you know, very well,” Trump told reporters, commending the country’s leadership. “You have a great prime minister. You have a great general there … I think Pakistan is doing terrifically well.”
The president’s remarks come as tensions have intensified between the neighboring countries following Kabul’s launch of border attacks against Pakistan on Thursday, which triggered retaliatory airstrikes by Islamabad inside Afghanistan.
The death toll on both sides of the border has climbed to 48, according to official figures. Pakistani authorities reported 12 soldiers and one civilian killed, while Afghan officials confirmed 13 of their soldiers and 22 civilians lost their lives during the clashes. The Pakistani army also reported one soldier missing.

The White House has not provided additional details on what form any potential US intervention might take or under what circumstances Trump would consider becoming involved in the conflict.[]
