ALL MUSLIMS MUST UNITE TO LIBERATE AL AQSA

        Jakarta , 21 Safar 1435 / 24 December 2013 ( MINA ) – Former Imam of al-Aqsa, Sheikh Mohamed Mahmoud Shiyam called on all Muslims around the world to unite in an Islamic brotherhood to liberate al-Aqsa and Palestine from Israeli occupation.

        The Muslims youth must be superior in all subjects of knowledge.  They must become   scholars, experts, fighters and then they unite to liberate Al-Aqsa from Zionist occupation,” said Shiyam in his visit to masjid Al – Jihad, Waingapu, East Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara ( NTT ), Indonesia, Tuesday.

        The scholar highlighted Indonesian and Malaysian Muslims as majority in South East region have tremendous enthusiasm to help Palestinian struggle, especially the liberation of al-Aqsa, which until now is still under Israeli occupation.

       “Indonesian and Malaysian Muslims love Palestine very much. “We (Palestinians) really need supports from Muslims, especially in Indonesia and Malaysia, We have many orphans, the poors, and widows. We also need the construction of a hospital to help the fighters, ” said Sheikh Shiyam, who is also the chairman of Palestine Scholars Union in Yemen.

        The former Rector of Islamic University of Gaza, Palestine, is also concerned with the condition of Muslims around the world who are divided and they face internal conflicts like in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the oppression of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

Fundraising for al-Aqsa

         The Chairman of Safari Da’wah Committee, Alwi Assegaf said Indonesian Muslims, especially in NTT should have been more concerned with the condition of Muslims everywhere, especially in Palestine. Zionist Israeli occupation has been blockading Gaza strip from all sides of the enclave.

         “I expect each community components especially Indonesian Muslims can unite to support the Palestinian cause and have a sense of empathy towards fellow  Muslims in the other places around the world. Anything we can give them, including even only a prayer to ease their burden,” Assegaf told MINA (Mi’raj News Agency)’s reporter.

          He stated various organizations, such as NGOs and Muslims parties in NTT are very enthusiastic and participated actively in supporting the Palestinian struggle and liberation of al-Aqsa Mosque by raising funds for Palestine and Al-Aqsa.

          “Alhamdulillah, for two days in the event of Sheikh Mahmoud Shiyam visit, the funds that have been collected amount to 57 million rupiahs,” he said.

           Indonesian Ulama Council of NTT Province, Abdul Kadir Makarim said his institution strongly supports the event (Syaikh Shyiam visit). He called NTT people to take care of their fellow Muslims who are still oppressed and need help, such as in Palestine.

           Indonesian activist for Palestine, Dili Handosiswoyo also supports the event.  Muslims in NTT develop rapidly. The life among religious communities are very tolerant and respectful, although there are still many non-Muslims in NTT.

          Sheikh Mahmoud Shyiam’s Safari visit to NTT was organized by Aqsa Working Group (AWG) representative in Kupang, It lasts for three days, starting from Friday, December 20 until Sunday. ( L/P04/E1)
