THREE KILLED IN CAIRO CLASHES

         Cairo, 28 Dzulqo’idah 1434/4 October 2013 (MINA) – Deadly clashes erupted between supporters and opponents of deposed president Mohamed Morsi in Ibn Sandr Square in the suburb of Zeitoun in western Cairo.

 

         A security source told Ahram Online that three people were killed in the violence. According to Al-Ahram Arabic news website monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA), another 23 were injured.

         Security forces are to trying to separate the rival groups, reported Al-Ahram.

         Clashes reportedly erupted after hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood loyalists gathered to protest in Zeitoun.

         According to Al-Ahram, gunfire was heard during the clashes.

          On Friday, Morsi supporters staged demonstrations in Cairo and across the country as part of their calls for continuous rallies in the lead up to Sunday, a national holiday celebrating the 1973 war against Israel.

          Another protester was killed in clashes between supporters and opponents of the deposed president in Manial in central Cairo.

           At least three people were killed in Friday clashes between supporters and opponents of ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi in Cairo, medical sources said.

          According to Ahmed al-Ansari, deputy head of Egypt’s ambulance service, one person was killed in clashes in southern Cairo’s Manyal district.
          Fourteen others were reportedly injured in outbreaks of violence across the country, including eight in capital Cairo and two in Giza.
         Two more people succumbed to injuries sustained in stone-throwing clashes at a hospital in eastern Cairo, a medical source said, without mentioning where the incident took place.
         The violence came as Morsi backers staged fresh rallies following weekly Friday prayers to denounce what they describe as the July 3 “military coup” against Egypt’s democratically elected leader.
          Clashes erupted in eastern Cairo between Morsi backers and opponents when a pro-Morsi march approached the vicinity of Egyptian Defense Ministry headquarters.
          Skirmishes spilled into adjacent streets, with a number of injuries reported and several local shops damaged.
          Army troops set up barbed wire and barricades around the ministry to preempt attempts by Morsi supporters to storm the building. (T/P08/E1)
