25 Afghan National Army Soldiers Killed in Taliban Attack on Military Base in Farah province.

Islamabad, MINA – At least 25 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and two Taliban insurgents have been killed in an attack on an Afghan military base in Afghanistan’s western Farah province, KUNA reported, citing officials on Saturday.

Public representative of provincial council, Dadullah Qane, said in a statement that at least 25 ANA soldiers were killed in a Taliban attack on a military base in the province overnight.

The attack started early morning in Shakh-i-Bala Kansk area of Bala Block district. Taliban rebels captured two soldiers, stole a large amount of weapons and destroyed three tanks.

The incident occurred just before a clash broke out in Sore Shamal area, capital of Farah province, and while security forces were fighting the insurgents, the Taliban attacked the base.

According to local media, the spokesman for Taliban rebels Qari Yousaf Ahmedi claimed responsibility for the attack saying that around 30 soldiers were killed.

Early last month, at least six policemen and two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed in a Taliban attack on security posts in the provincial capital and Anar Dara district of Farah province. (T/RS5/RS1)
