Damascus, MINA – Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa issued a stern warning on Saturday, stating that any Israeli effort to alter the 1974 Disengagement Agreement would transform the region into “a dangerous place with unknown consequences.” He made these remarks during a dialogue session at the Doha Forum 2025.
President Sharaa asserted that Israel is attempting to “export its crises to other countries” and evade accountability for the conflict in Gaza. He criticized Israel for justifying its actions under the banner of security, while Syria has sought to promote regional stability since its liberation.
The Syrian leader emphasized his nation’s insistence that Israel must fully adhere to the 1974 agreement, which governs the ceasefire line in the occupied Golan Heights. He strongly questioned proposals for alternative security arrangements, such as a demilitarized buffer zone, asking, “Who will protect this area if the Syrian army is not present?”
Sharaa concluded that any future agreement must primarily guarantee Syria’s interests, noting that Syria is the party most vulnerable to Israeli attacks.[]
