Aleppo, MINA – Syrian Army troops have successfully taken control of the majority of the Ashrafieh neighborhood in central Aleppo, following operations to oust PKK/YPG terrorist groups from the area, Anadolu Agency reported.
According to military sources, government forces launched a multi-directional assault, entering the neighborhood from the north, west, and south. Following the initial military push, special task force units from the Syrian Interior Ministry have commenced search and sweep operations to ensure the area is clear of threats.
While the army has secured most of Ashrafieh, reports indicate that sporadic clashes are still ongoing in certain pockets of the district and the neighboring Sheikh Maqsoud area. Aleppo Governor Azzam Gharib confirmed that internal security forces are preparing for a full deployment to both neighborhoods to restore order and facilitate the safe return of displaced civilians.
The military intervention follows a period of heightened tension. Since December 6, the PKK/YPG (operating under the SDF banner) has been accused of launching attacks on civilian settlements in Aleppo, resulting in nine deaths and 55 injuries.

Despite a March 10 agreement aimed at integrating the SDF into state institutions, the Syrian government stated the group failed to abide by the terms, necessitating the current targeted operations.
The Aleppo City Center Committee reports that the conflict has led to the evacuation of approximately 142,000 residents to safer zones within the city.[]
