Cairo, 23 Ramadan 1434/31 July 2013 (MINA) – An African Union (AU) delegation met with deposed Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi on Tuesday (30/7), after it suspended the membership of Egypt in AU due to Morsi’s overthrow.
The African Union Wise Men Committee delegation, led by former Malian president Alpha Omar Konare, spent an hour with Morsi at an undisclosed location, a day after EU delegation Catherine Ashton met Morsi, Egypt media Ahram reported as monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).
This is the second meeting between a foreign delegation and Morsi since he was ousted by the military on 3 July, amid ongoing million protester supporting Morsi’s reinstatement across the country.
Earlier on Tuesday, the AU delegation met a number of Egyptian officials, including interim president Adly Mansour, army chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and interim Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy, he stressed the Egypt membership suspension in AU following Mohamed Morsi’s overthrow.
However, interim Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy rejected the decision to suspend the membership of Egypt.
Foreign countried seems increasingly showing support for President Morsi, especially after delegation’s demand to visit Cairo to meet with Mursi, including Germany which are awaiting for it.
Morsi is in the military detention since the Israeli-back military announced his coup in early July, until now the accusations of the past that are still being investigated override the only Egyptian president who has memorized the Koran.
Muslim Brotherhood reported more than 480 supporters Morsi died after security forces attacks, while more than 5,000 other injured, hundreds arrested forcibly, and nine TV channels forced to close. (T/P03/E1)
