SUNNI-SHIA SADDENED BY BLOODSHED SUBVERT BOTH RELATION

       Kuala Lumpur, 13 Rajab 1434 / 23 May 2013 (MINA) – Former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Muhammad, met with former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami on Wednesday (22/5) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the officials regret bloodshed lately between Sunni and Shia.

       Both said it has made muslim more vulnerable to the manipulations of outside element determined to subvert the unity and integrity of muslim, especially between Sunni-Shia relation, Correspondent of Miraj News Agency (MINA) reported on a press conference held at Gedung Perdana Leadership Foundation, Putrajaya, Malaysia.

       Without saying spesific issue, they agreed Sunni-Shia conflict is intentionally made by certain parties which left thousands casualties, innocent lives, especially women and children, where such conflicts defame the image of Muslims in the world.

       At the conference named Joint Appeal Sunni-Shia Muslim, Mahathir called organizations from Muslim countries around the world to seek a role to end the killing and bloodshed among Muslims.

       “I am who previously led the Sunni majority and Khatami who previously led the Shia majority called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to form a committee to examine the large gap between Sunni-Shia, then create a discourse that can be carried out jointly by the leaders of Islam without seeing their madzhab and their background, ” Mahatir said.

       Mahathir and Khatami called on individuals and organizations in the world to stop the bloodshed, and restore the Sunni-Shia relations.

       The two former Malasyia and Iran leaders calls for efforts to improve both relationship and spread out through mass media and Internet, they said on a press conference attended by journalists.

       “We hope to all members of the Sunni and Shia who believe in Allah Ta’ala, guided by the same Qur’an, which both glorifies Messenger of Allah peace be upon him, to stop the bloodshed,” its press release added. (L/P05/P03).
