Khartoum, MINA – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) declared on Friday that Sudan is now confronting the world’s largest internal displacement crisis, following over two years of war between the national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The UN agency highlighted the immense hardship faced by the displaced population, stating, “From mothers fleeing with newborns to students separated from their families, people face immense hardship.” It noted that support from the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) is crucial for delivering critical protection and relief.
The conflict, which began in April 2023, has resulted in thousands of deaths and displaced millions. Territorially, the RSF controls the five states of the Darfur region in the west, while the army holds most areas in the south, north, east, and center, including the capital, Khartoum.[]
