Madrid, MINA – Spain has joined five other European Union countries in calling on the EU’s foreign policy chief to take “all possible measures” to guarantee the massive entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, citing an extremely fragile and frequently violated ceasefire.
Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares, speaking in Brussels on Monday, confirmed that a letter was sent to EU High Representative Kaja Kallas ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers. The letter urges the EU to utilize all available channels and initiatives to ensure all EU humanitarian aid reaches Gaza in full.
According to sources, the other signatories are Ireland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Slovenia, and Portugal. Albares warned that the current ceasefire is fragile and suffers constant violations, requiring definitive consolidation.
He also noted that during the EU meeting, he would connect with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to discuss what he termed a “very nascent peace plan,” describing it as a ray of hope for Gazans that needs further consolidation.

The call for action comes despite an ongoing truce, as living conditions in Gaza remain dire due to Israel’s strict restrictions on aid truck entry, which violates the agreement’s humanitarian protocol. The death toll from Israeli attacks since October 2023 has surpassed 70,600, with over 171,100 injured.[]
