SAUDI KEEPS POUNDING YEMENI DISTRICTS
Sana’a, 8 Rajab 1436/27 April 2015 (MINA) – Saudi Arabia has reportedly carried out fresh assaults on Yemen, bombarding several places across the impoverished country including the capital Sana’a.
According to local media reports, Saudi fighter jets pounded Faj Attan, al-Nahdin, and al-Arqoub districts in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, early on Monday.
According to the Yemeni news website, Yemen-press, a huge explosion happened in the Faj Attan district after the Saudi fighter jets targeted a missile depot there. Several people were reportedly killed in the Saudi raid, Press Tv quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
The Yemeni air defense system shot at the Saudi warplanes after they entered Sana’a airspace, the website added.
Saudi fighter jets also carried out several airstrikes in the Safra district in the northwestern province of Sa’ada. Artillery shells fired by Saudi forces also hit two other districts in Sa’ada.
There are no exact reports on the number of casualties in the attacks on Monday.
Saudi Arabia launched its air campaign against Yemen on March 26 without a United Nations mandate in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and to restore power to the country’s fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.
On April 21, Riyadh announced the end of the first phase of its military operation, which has claimed the lives of nearly 1,000 people so far, but airstrikes have continued.
According to Yemen’s Health Ministry, the month-long Saudi aggression has killed nearly 150 children and around 100 women. (T/P002/R03)
