President Jokowi Considering Reappointing Arcandra

Serang, Banten, 10 Dzulhijjah 1437/12 September 016 (MINA) – President Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, said he was still considering to reappoint Arcandra Tahar as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).

“(I am still considering it) until now, I will first look at issues related to citizenship, especially the process (of his regaining Indonesian citizenship),” Antara quoted Jokowi as saying in Serang, Banten on Sunday.

Jokowi said Justice Minister Yasonna Laoly has reported the citizenship status of Arcandra who was named energy and mineral resources minister recently but was later discharged as he had US citizenship.

The Head of State said that he had not yet summoned Arcandra back. “I have not seen the details of what the process is like. I have not yet summoned him until today,” said the President.

Recently, the President dismissed Arcandra from his position as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources on August 14, 2016 because he was later known to have a United States citizenship.

On September 1, 2016 Justice Minister Yasonna Laoly issued a letter reinstating the Indonesian citizenship of Arcandra. (T/R07/R01)
