Jakarta, MINA – The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has received an official invitation to attend the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace (BoP) scheduled to take place in Washington, United States on February 19.

The State Secretary Minister, Prasetyo Hadi, confirmed that the invitation has been received by the government, but there is no final confirmation yet regarding whether President Prabowo will travel to the United States to attend the meeting.

According to Prasetyo, the government hopes that participation in the BoP activities will not only serve as a discussion forum but could also function strategically to discuss other collaborations, including the possibility of signing a tariff trade agreement between Indonesia and the US, which is currently still under discussion.

The BoP initiative itself is a proposal by Donald Trump. Indonesia previously signed the BoP charter at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

However, several circles have reminded that this step needs to be communicated carefully to the public and domestic stakeholders, considering the sensitivity of the Palestinian issue and Indonesia’s consistent position in voicing independence and justice for the Palestinian people.

Discussions with community leaders, including the President’s meeting with representatives of Islamic organizations, are part of the internal preparations in responding to the BoP agenda.

Indonesia joined the BoP alongside several other countries, but the mechanism of participation and the country’s official role are still being discussed by the government. []
