Ramallah, MINA – A Palestinian rights monitoring group has revealed that Israeli interrogators have been systematically starving detainees for a week or longer as a means of forcing confessions, a practice that advocates say amounts to torture under international law, according to the Palestine Information Center.
The Asra Media Office reported Tuesday that several Palestinian prisoners had been deprived of food throughout their interrogation periods before being transferred to Nafha prison. The group condemned the practice as a blatant violation of the Geneva Conventions, which explicitly ban cruel and inhuman treatment.
“Nafha jail has become a place of unbearable suffering,” the group said in a statement. Detainees there are reportedly subjected to frequent crackdowns, severe restrictions on religious practices, and ongoing starvation. The prison is also seeing outbreaks of scabies and skin allergies, with little to no medical care provided. Hygiene conditions have deteriorated sharply, compounding the health crisis behind bars.
The office also accused Nafha’s administration of severely limiting outdoor exercise time, serving substandard food, and forcing prisoners to share shaving equipment, which increases the risk of spreading infectious diseases.

Asra Media called for an independent international investigation into these abuses and urged that Israeli prison officials be held accountable for what it described as systematic violations of detainees’ basic human rights.[]
