Johannesburg, 11 Sya’ban 1437/19 May 2016 (MINA) – The president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, will arrive in South Africa next week as part of a South African initiative to bring peace to the Middle East.

Abbas, who is also head of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO), will undertake a working visit to this country, meeting President Jacob Zuma in Cape Town on May 24. Nelson Kgwete, spokesperson for the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, confirmed the visit on Wednesday.

He said the visit followed on the efforts of former minister Zola Skweyiya and former deputy minister Aziz Pahad, who have been Zuma’s special envoys to the Middle East since 2014.
