PALESTINE NOW NEEDS ELECTION AND RECONSTRUCTION

Dubes Pal Surabaya, 2 Rabiul Awwal 1434, 13 January, 2013 (MINA) – Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Fariz Mehdawi stated that what is Palestine needed today is the elections and reconstructions of all parts. It was stated in an interview with Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) reporter in Surabaya while attending Tabliq Akbar for Palestinian Solidarity.

HOW IS THE LAST CONDITION OF PALESTINE AFTER THE ISRAELI ATTACK ON GAZA?

Palestinians suffered a lot of damage after the Israeli attack on Gaza. Many government buildings, trade centers, schools and infra-structures were destroyed. Hundreds of Palestinians were martyred and thousands more injured. But the Palestinians feel the victory and gained a lot progress after the attack.

Supports from international community to the Palestinians are very large. They condemned Israel for the attack. Mass media and on line media also did it. They reported actual conditions of Palestine. It makes international community realized that the condition of the Palestinian people really need support in their struggle to get their rights and independence.

ISRAEL WILL HOLD ELECTION NEXT MONTH, IS THERE ANY IMPACT FOR PALESTINE?

The outcome was the policy implemented by the leader. But we did not expect much from the leaders of Israel. History recorded that all Israeli leaders have been so cruel to Palestinians. So they work for themselves and we have to fight for the rights and freedom of our people.

HOW ABOUT THE CONDITIONS OF NEIHBOURING COUNTRIES, IS THERE ANY IMPACT ON PALESTINE?

Indeed, the situation in the countries surrounding Palestine illustrates the power of the Arabs. If they are busy with their domestic affairs, Israel will assume that they are weak and would not be able to help the Palestinian people. We hope our neighboring countries such as Syria, Jordan, Egypt and others would be able to solve their domestic affairs and then work together against Israel that is occupying Palestine. Their support would be seriously considered by Israel.

AFTER UN RECOGNIZED PALESTINE AS A NON-MEMBER STATE OBSERVER, WHAT WILL BE DONE NEXT?

Palestine will cooperate with various organizations in the world to rebuild Gaza that today was severely damaged by Israeli attacks. There are more than 69 organizations from various countries, including the United Nations which are ready to assist the development in Palestine. What we have to do now is an honest election in Palestine and reconstruction in all aspects of our society.

WHEN WILL PALESTINIAN HOLD THE ELECTIONS AND HOW IS THE PREPARATION?

We need time to prepare for the elections. Preparations of security, infrastructure, and psychological conditions of the Palestinian people itself to be our main focus. At a very least we need 5 to 7 months for it.

FATAH AND HAMAS HELD A MEETING IN EGYPT. WHAT IS THE RESULTS?

The meeting produced a very strategic decision to progress the development of Palestine. One of them is an agreement to hold national elections in Palestine. Hamas and Fatah have shown to the world that they are united and work together in building Palestine. One of the proves is that the Fatah birthday anniversary was held in Gaza, and some times ago Hamas held the same event in the West Bank.

IS IT POSSIBLE IF PALESTINE AND ISRAEL LIVE IN PEACE WITH TWO-STATE SOLUTION?

I can not predict certainty. But if we look at the history of South Africa that they were colonized then were free, there is only one state there that is South Africa. Likewise it is in Palestine today. Surely there is only one country that is Palestine. It is our right because Palestine is our land and Israel came and seized our land. Therefore, it was very hard for Palestine and Israel to be able to live in peace with two states solution because they will always grab our land. However, if Palestinians got their independent absolutely, there may be a policy regarding the Israeli people who are in the land of Palestine.

IF WE COMPARE, HOW MANY PEOPLE ACTUALLY IN ISRAEL AND PALESTINE?

Many people say that Israel’s population is more than 7 million. But in fact they are no more than 6.5 million. While the Palestinians today are 2.5 millions in the West Bank, 1.7 millions and 1.3 millions outside Gaza and West Bank. So actually now Israel and the Palestinian population are in balance.
