Khartoum, MINA – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced on Monday that more than 3.3 million Sudanese people displaced by conflict have returned to their areas of origin across the country in November 2025, Anadolu Agency reported.
According to an IOM report covering the period from November 1 to 30, 2025, an estimated 3,334,705 people returned to nearly 2,500 locations in 65 localities across nine Sudanese states. The figure marks a 10 percent increase compared to the previous month.
The data was collected from more than 12,000 sites in 185 localities across all 18 states of Sudan. The report said that 83 percent of the returnees were previously internally displaced, while 17 percent returned from abroad.
Children under the age of 18 made up 55 percent of internally displaced returnees and 45 percent of those returning from outside the country, according to the organization.

Despite the increase in returns, the IOM noted that about 9,258,273 people remain internally displaced across 11,194 locations nationwide. Internal displacement in Sudan previously peaked at around 11.5 million people before declining to approximately 9.3 million, based on the latest United Nations statistics.
The organization said internal displacement has decreased by 20 percent from its peak level and by 1 percent compared to the previous month. However, the number of internally displaced people rose in several states, including Central Darfur, East Darfur, North Darfur, South Darfur, South Kordofan, White Nile, and Khartoum.
Earlier, on December 17, the IOM reported that 3,027,446 people returned to their areas of origin or nearby locations in October 2025, including more than 2.2 million who returned from internal displacement and over half a million from abroad.
Sudan has been gripped by conflict since April 2023, when fighting erupted between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The violence has killed thousands and displaced millions, with the RSF controlling most of the Darfur region while the army holds large parts of the rest of the country, including the capital Khartoum.[]
