One Indonesian Crew Member Still Missing After Drone Attack in Yemen

Jakarta, MINA – The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that one Indonesian crew member (ABK) remains unaccounted for after the cargo vessel MV Tihamah was hit by a drone attack in Yemeni waters on Tuesday.

Search and rescue operations in the maritime area are still being conducted intensively. Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, said on Thursday that the ministry, together with the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat, continues to coordinate with Yemeni authorities to obtain the latest information regarding the crew member’s whereabouts. As of Thursday, the official status of the missing Indonesian remains unconfirmed.

The MV Tihamah was carrying 11 crew members, consisting of eight Pakistani nationals and three Indonesians. According to the Ministry, two other Indonesian crew members survived the incident. One sustained minor injuries from shrapnel and did not require hospital treatment, while the other suffered wounds and has received medical attention.

Earlier, several international media outlets reported that one Indonesian crew member had died in the attack. However, the Ministry emphasized that this information is still under verification and cannot yet be officially confirmed as a death. The Indonesian government is awaiting confirmation from local authorities regarding the condition and whereabouts of the crew member.

The attack occurred while the MV Tihamah was at the Bab al-Mandab port in Murad, Yemen. The Tanzania-flagged vessel was reportedly sailing from Salalah, Oman, to Djibouti. The incident triggered a fire and caused casualties among the crew.

The Ministry and the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat continue to provide assistance to affected Indonesians and maintain communication with their families in Indonesia. The government is also ensuring that the search for the missing crew member continues, while the conditions of the other two Indonesian crew members remain under close monitoring.[]
