NYT : ISRAEL’S IRON DOME FAILED ON GAZA WAR

New York, 11 Jumadil Awal 1434/23 March 2013 (MINA) – The American New York Times newspaper reported that some American weapons experts started raising doubts about the efficiency of Israel’s Iron Dome system, used in the recent war on Gaza.

The paper stated in a report published on Thursday that “a growing chorus of weapons experts in the United States and in Israel say their studies — based largely on analyses of hits and misses captured on video — suggest that Iron Dome destroyed no more than 40 percent of incoming warheads and perhaps far fewer,” according to Occupied Palestine reports monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).

Israeli officials initially claimed success rates of the Iron Dome up to 90 percent. However the New York Times quoted weapons expert Philip E. Coyle III as saying that “no military system is 90 percent effective”.

For his part; American weapons expert Richard Lloyd told the Times he is doubting the efficacy of the Iron Dome system to drop and intercept Palestinian rockets during the recent war on Gaza.

He says that his own analyses show a success rate of only between 30 and 40 percent.

For the remaining targets, he judges that the interceptor was either badly aligned or too far away, at best leaving the rockets wounded or thrown off course. (T/P01).
