Jakarta, MINA – The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has issued a firm statement responding to the US-Israeli military attacks on Iran, urging the Indonesian government to immediately withdraw from its membership in the Board of Peace (BoP). The demand comes amid escalating conflict in the Middle East, which MUI believes was triggered by aggressive US-Israeli actions.
In its official advisory, MUI highlighted that US President Donald Trump’s decision to launch joint strikes with Israel against Iran has ignited a regional war involving various powers both directly and through proxies. This situation, according to MUI, represents a serious escalation with the potential to drag the Middle East into a broader open conflict.
Indonesia’s highest Islamic scholarly body also strongly condemned the Israeli attacks supported by the United States, stating they contradict humanitarian values and the preamble of the 1945 Constitution, particularly the mandate to participate in establishing world order based on independence, lasting peace, and social justice.
In its statement, MUI emphasized several important points. First, it condemned the Israeli-American attacks on Iran and urged both countries to cease their aggression as it violates Article 2(4) of the UN Charter. Second, it viewed Iran’s retaliatory strikes on military bases in Gulf countries as justified actions protected under international law.

Third, MUI called on the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take maximum measures to halt the war and ensure respect for international law. Fourth, it invited Muslims around the world to perform Qunut Nazilah prayers, earnestly supplicating to Allah for assistance for oppressed Muslims.
MUI expressed deep condolences for the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as a result of the Israeli-American attacks. “Inna ilaihi raji’un. As martyrs, we pray that they become inhabitants of paradise, Aamiin,” MUI wrote.
Furthermore, MUI assessed that the strategic motives behind these attacks suggest a systematic effort to weaken Iran’s strategic position in the region while simultaneously limiting Iran’s support for the Palestinian struggle for independence.
“This situation cannot be viewed as isolated incidents but rather as part of a larger geopolitical configuration. It is the duty and responsibility of all nations to realize peace in order to provide maximum protection to civilians,” MUI emphasized.

In the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, MUI encourages various nations to serve as peacemakers to halt military attacks that could become instruments of political pressure to secure Israel’s regional dominance over Palestine.[]
