Macron Calls for Discussion on Jerusalem at EU Summit

French President Emmanuel Macron.

Brussels, MINA – French President Emmanuel Macron said Thursday that a discussion on the Jerusalem situation after the US declaration to recognize it as the capital of Israel by EU leaders meeting Thursday would be useful.

“I already expressed myself on this topic and I am going to reaffirm now my position. I think is useful to have a collective discussion during this Council,” he was quoted by KUNA as telling reporters as he arrived for the EU summit.

“We will see this evening if, collectively, we consider the necessity for some collective words but the EU High Representative Mogherini expressed herself already very well and clear,” he added.

“The heads of the (EU) state and government will decide whether to include this in the formal statement or not but this is and will stay the consolidated position of the EU in any case,” she added. (T/RS5/RS1)
