Landslides Hit Sumedang District, Killing Five

Bandung, Wesy Java, 19 Dzulhijjah 1437/21 September 2016 (MINA) – Landslides triggered by heavy downpours hit Sumedang District, West Java, on Tuesday evening, killing five people and burying two houses.

“According to the latest information, five people were found dead,” Antara quoted West Java Regonal Police spokesman Senior Commissioner Yusri Yunus as saying here, Wednesday.

The landslides occurred in four locations in Kampong Anjung, Pasanggrahan Baru Village, South Sumedang Sub-district.

A road connecting Bandung and Cirebon in the Cadas Pangeran area was covered with mud from the landslide.

Of the five casualties, two were rescued from a buried house, but they died while being transported to a nearby hospital.

The local police and disaster mitigation office (BNPB)  have deployed heavy equipment to clear the mud. (T/R07/R01)
