Japan Examining Legitimacy of Syrian Strikes

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga

Tokyo, 13 Rajab 1438/10, April 2017 (MINA) – Japan is examining the legitimacy of the US military air strikes against Syria on April 7, a top government spokesman said Monday.

“Japan is not a party involved in US military operations, and we are hearing their views about the justification for the strikes under international laws,” KUNA quoted Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga as telling a press conference.

The US launched cruise missiles at Syrian military airfield after President Bashar Al-Assad allegedly used chemical weapons that killed dozens of Syrian civilians including children.

Suga also said that Japan received no explanation from the US side of the legitimacy of the air strikes during a telephone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Abe on Sunday.
