Gaza, MINA – The Israeli occupation army announced on Monday that it has recovered the remains of Ran Gvili, reported to be the last Israeli captive in the Gaza Strip.

According to Hebrew media, the 24-year-old Yamam police officer’s remains were found following an intensive search operation east of Gaza City that involved the exhumation of numerous sites. The army stated his identity was confirmed through DNA and dental tests.

Following the announcement, the Hamas Movement stated it had undertaken extensive efforts to locate the body, providing continuous updates to mediators. In a statement, Hamas called on Israel to now fully implement the ceasefire agreement, specifically demanding the opening of the Rafah border crossing in both directions without restrictions, ensuring the entry of essential supplies, and facilitating a full military withdrawal from Gaza to allow the national administration committee to work.

Hamas emphasized that the recovery of the soldier’s body “removes the pretext” Israel had used to delay implementing its obligations under the truce. This statement aligns with a prior announcement on Sunday from the Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s armed wing, which claimed it had informed mediators of the body’s location.[]
