Tehran, MINA – The Israeli and US navies conducted a joint military exercise in the Red Sea on Sunday, amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear program. An Israeli military statement described the drill as part of ongoing cooperation between the Israeli Navy and the US 5th Fleet in the region.
The exercise involved the US destroyer USS Delbert D. Black and Israeli Navy vessels. The US destroyer docked at Israel’s Eilat port as part of what both militaries called a “pre-planned, routine visit” and “routine maritime exercise” underscoring their strategic partnership. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated the training demonstrated the “strong military partnership” between the two forces.
The drill occurs as the US increases its military footprint in the Middle East and President Donald Trump continues to threaten potential military action against Iran.
Meanwhile, regional diplomatic efforts led by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt are pushing for US-Iran negotiations to avert a wider confrontation.

Israeli analysts have expressed concern that Washington may prioritize a political solution, with reports indicating Israel has warned the US against Iranian “deception.”
In a related development, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed confidence on Sunday that a nuclear agreement with the US is possible, noting Washington is coordinating with regional countries to resume negotiations.[]
